Wise Integration of Technology
The SAMR model has four steps to it; Substation, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition.
Substation is the sense that technology is used to substitute something. For example a student could type onto a Google Doc instead of a piece of paper or use a quiz format to take a quiz through an app.Augment is the stage that allows technology to increase or help the learning experience for students. For example, students could find a recourse like a video to add to, or augment, their presentation. Substation and Augment are both stages of enhancement, while Modification and Redefinition are transformation stages. Modification is the stage that goes from augmenting to transforming. Instead of using a video in their presentation a student would create a video themself or a graphic to add to their presentation. Redefinition is the final stage in the model and it is how technology can change the students' experience. The students could use technology to communicate about a topic with other students around the world. Maybe using e-pals or something similar. I think this is a great model because it provides teachers with a framework that they can use when integrating technology in teaching, and how technology can enhance instruction.
The RAT model has three steps to it; Replacement, Amplification and Transformation. Replacement is that technology is used to instruct, but does not replace established practices. Furthermore, it does not replace what is already being taught. Amplification is that technology enhances so many things in the classroom, whether its efficiency or effectiveness or anything else. Transformation is that technology instruction, learning, or curriculum in new and original ways
Similar to the SAMR this model enhances and transforms what is being taught in the classroom. This model is concise and is ebay to remember, which would help expand my understanding of wise technology integration. Also, a fun fact is that the developer of this model went to Michigan State University.
